Help a child find a home, not a survival

Many orphanages and shelters struggle with leaking roofs, unstable walls, or a lack of sleeping space. We visited several orphanages and identified their most urgent specific needs: 

Tunas Harapan (Yogyakarta):
Chronically ill boys require ongoing medical support, nutrition, and medication. The sanitary facilities are in dire need of renovation. Rumah Harapan (Banjarbaru) orphanage for boys: More children than beds. No place to quietly do homework or eat together. Panti Asuhan Putri (Banjarmasin) orphanage for girls: The number of girls cannot be accommodated due to a lack of beds and sleeping space. Within this project, we offer orphans a safe space where they can talk, heal, and rebuild trust. Many of these children carry a heavy emotional burden. Our professional counselors and volunteers help them step by step to understand their feelings, find strength within themselves, and move forward with a more positive vision for the future.
With personalized attention, group sessions, and creative therapies, we ensure that no child is left alone.

The KIDS in Dire Straits Foundation helps orphans and children from poor families who cannot afford to attend school. The foundation ensures that a number of children can still attend school. For this project, the KIDS Foundation collaborates with the Titian Foundation.

The Titian Foundation:
Titian helps children with their education in primary and secondary school. In Indonesia, education is compulsory up to and including grade 9. After that, secondary school begins: grades 10, 11, and 12. Parents have to pay for these three years themselves. As a result, many children from poor families, and children whose parents have never received any education, cannot continue their education. Titian helps these children so they can continue after grade 9. Without support, 90% of them drop out of school. But thanks to Titian's three-year program—which includes tuition, guidance, and school supplies—the children can complete secondary school. Afterward, they can continue their studies at a vocational college or university. 1,500 students have already successfully completed the program. This year, unfortunately, there isn't enough funding for 61 of the 130 students. These children are already in school thanks to a temporary financial arrangement, but they need your help. Without your support, they can't finish their education and will have to leave because the Titian Foundation doesn't have the resources to keep them in school.

here are also adoptive families. These are families who take in one or more orphans and provide them with a safe and supportive home. These families often manage financially until grade 10, but after that, things get tough. These families especially need extra support when the children go on to vocational training or university. The KIDS in Dire Straits Foundation is helping one of these families: the Gunawan family, Kalimantan. They have adopted three children.

• Daughter Siti is studying to become a nurse.
• Their adopted son, Andi, is studying at the Police Academy in Sukabumi.
• The youngest adopted daughter, Dewi, is in secondary school and needs a little help. 

This family desperately needs your support to help the children complete their education and thus have a hopeful future.
