A safe base: shelter, care and mental guidance

For many vulnerable children in Indonesia, help begins with something very simple: a safe place to live, sleep, and relax. This foundation is often lacking. Many orphanages suffer from serious maintenance backlogs, a shortage of beds, and a significant shortage of living space. The demand for shelter exceeds current capacity, resulting in children ending up on waiting lists.

Visits to various orphanages have revealed where the need is greatest. The Tunas Harapan boys' orphanage in Yogyakarta also houses chronically ill boys who depend on medical care, proper nutrition, and medication. Furthermore, the sanitary facilities are in urgent need of renovation, and a functional kitchen is lacking.

The Rumah Harapan orphanage in Banjarbaru houses more boys than it has beds. There is no suitable place for them to eat together or do homework. An orphanage in Banjarmasin currently cannot even accommodate girls due to a lack of space and basic amenities.

The Kids in Dire Straits Foundation also supports impoverished families with food parcels. This helps alleviate hunger and provides families with temporary relief. Your support makes an immediate difference.
