Our mission
The KiDS in Dire Straits Foundation contributes to the safety, development, and future prospects of children in Indonesia growing up in vulnerable circumstances.
We do this in collaboration with local schools, care facilities, and community organizations. They know the children, families, and communities, and bear the day-to-day responsibility for guidance and care. Their knowledge and experience form the starting point of our partnership.
From the Netherlands, we support carefully selected projects through financial resources, active involvement, knowledge exchange, and by connecting people and organizations. We establish clear agreements, monitor the use of funds, and maintain an ongoing dialogue with our partners regarding results and improvements.
Our vision
We believe that sustainable support begins with listening—standing alongside people rather than above them, and acting out of respect for dignity, resilience, and local expertise rather than pity.
Every child has the right to protection, education, attention, and the opportunity to develop their talents. In doing so, we look not only at what is missing but also at the strengths already present in children, families, caregivers, and local communities. We respect Indonesia’s religious, cultural, and local diversity.
Our collaboration aligns with the spirit of *Pancasila* and with values such as humanity, consultation, connectedness, and social justice. The foundation’s Christian inspiration motivates us to practice compassion and service, while our support remains open to every child, regardless of background or faith.
A bridge of connection
The shared history of the Netherlands and Indonesia encompasses encounters and cultural exchange, but also colonial rule, violence, inequality, loss, and forced departure. This history calls for a careful approach and space for diverse experiences and perspectives. Stichting KiDS does not seek to speak on behalf of the Netherlands or Indonesia, nor do we place personal blame on individuals today. Instead, we choose to transform our shared history into listening, learning, and collaborating on an equal footing for the future of children. For people in the Netherlands and Indonesia, as well as within the Indo-Dutch and Chinese-Indonesian communities, involvement in our projects offers a personal way to give tangible form to this connection.
