Jambatan Peranakan

Jambatan Peranakan Jembatan Peranakan is an initiative of the KiDS in Dire Straits Foundation. It brings together people from Indonesian, Indo-European, Dutch, Chinese-Indonesian, and other backgrounds to engage in dialogue, foster connections, and collaborate on concrete projects for children. Some bridges are built of steel and stone. Others emerge when people listen to one another, respect each other's histories, and take shared responsibility for the future. We acknowledge that the history shared by the Netherlands and Indonesia is complex and sometimes painful. That is precisely why we choose dialogue, humility, and equality. Our aim is not to rehash old divisions, but to learn how we can shape cooperation today in a way that is more just and humane. Jembatan Peranakan does not seek to designate one community as the savior and another as the recipient. Everyone brings something to the table: local knowledge, life experience, professional expertise, cultural memories, time, financial resources, and personal commitment. In this way, past and present meet. Memory transforms into attentiveness. Connection becomes visible through concrete collaboration.
