There are also adoptive families. These are families who take in one or more orphans and provide them with a safe and supportive home. These families often manage financially until grade 10, but after that, things get tough. These families especially need extra support when the children go on to vocational training or university.
The KIDS in Dire Straits Foundation is helping one of these families: the Gunawan family from Kalimantan. They have adopted three children.
This family desperately needs your support to help the children complete their education and thus have a hopeful future.
Every contribution, big or small, helps a child secure his or her future.
Situation of the Gunawan Family – Kalimantan (Indonesia)
The Gunawan family consists of their father, Ari, their mother, Risa, and their daughter, Nina. They also care for three adopted children (children of deceased relatives): Siti (17), Andi (16), and Dewi (12).
Ari works in a coal mine. Due to poor infrastructure, he can only travel home once a month. Risa runs a small restaurant and is responsible for the daily care of the children and the household.
The three adopted children now need further education. For Dewi, this means access to secondary school; for Siti and Andi, vocational training.
These programs are only available on the island of Java, resulting in high costs for accommodation, transportation, uniforms, school fees, and learning materials.
The family can no longer bear the financial burden. With support, these children can pursue an education and build a future, which is virtually impossible without assistance. Your contribution can directly contribute to education, shelter, and a sustainable future for these young people.
At the KIDS in Dire Straits Foundation, you can do more than just donate. You can connect with a child, family, or community in need. You'll receive updates and, where appropriate, guided contact through the foundation.
